Afghanistan-Pakistan Journalist Exchange

Project Length: October 2014 – September 2016

Equal Access is implementing a two-year Afghanistan and Pakistan Media Exchange project titled “Building Public Goodwill through Quality Reporting” (BGR). BGR aims to achieve the goal of quality reporting by Afghan and Pakistani journalists through establishing strong, long-term ties between key media professionals in both countries and improving the accuracy of news reports on bilateral issues produced and broadcast by the greater media community in each country. BGR couples the journalist exchanges with post-exchange events and an online platform to build strong momentum amongst the media community towards valuing accurate, balanced reporting and discouraging sensationalism and the promulgation of misunderstandings in news reports featuring the neighboring nation. EA is facilitating eight, seven-day exchanges and directly engaging 72 representatives of Afghan and Pakistani media outlets. Beginning with activities such as facilitated journalist dialogues groups, co-production sessions, fact-based reporting workshops and site visits with media outlets and sector experts, BGR’s approach ensures that participating journalists will gain new perspectives and establish ties with neighboring journalists and reliable news sources.
