The New Voices media and community outreach initiative targets Garhwali migrants living and working in Mumbai, Delhi and Uttaranchal (the initiative also targets Garhwali source communities in Uttaranchal). This unique initiative combines community outreach and training with tailored media programs (Garhwali/Hindi) to serve the needs of these communities on development issues including human rights, gender equality and reproductive health as well as building capacity for these communities to access the public sphere via the media.
This initiative dramatically increases audio program relevance – leading to social change within communities. it also achieves external societal changes by using the media to resolve water rights disputes and to encourage law enforcement to take domestic violence complaints seriously.
