Partner: International Organization for Migration (IOM)
Project Length: Dec 2015 – May 2016
In partnership with the International Organization for Migration (IOM), Equal Access is leveraging the power of media and local radio networks to disseminate credible and quality information on migration issues in Agadez and Niamey, Niger. EA is producing and broadcasting a radio magazine program providing information to migrants and refugees and the community more broadly on issues surrounding migration. The French-language radio program aims to foster positive dialogue around migration issues and ensure that critically-needed information is available to target audiences. EA is working closely with local radio partners, assisting them in producing their own call-in radio shows that will address the themes addressed in EA programming within a local context and establishing forums for local dialogue and exchange on key issues. This two-part approach to production ensures that radio content reaches and resonates with diverse audiences, and also provides local partners with skills for use beyond the life of the program.
Each episode aims to encourage citizens to deepen their understanding of the project’s themes by focusing on the reasons for migration and its multifaceted impacts on migrants and communities, the potential of economic growth to decrease migration, the role of civil society and leaders in managing migration and mitigating conflict, the dangers of traveling through the desert, the importance of reintegrating migrants into society, and a special focus on human and child trafficking.
