Equal Access is proud to announce that it has won the 2016 Tech Award in the Microsoft Education Category. The Tech Awards, presented by Applied Materials, is a premiere event and program that celebrates those who are using technology to solve the world’s most pressing problems. This is the second time Equal Access has been honored by the Tech Awards for its work around the globe providing critically-needed information and education to millions of underserved people in the developing world. The 2016 Tech Awards is based on a retrospective competition between previous awardees since the Tech Awards’ founding in 2001. In 2003, Equal Access won the Tech Award in the NASDAQ Education Category for a breakthrough solution providing life-changing education on women’s and girl’s empowerment and HIV/AIDS prevention to 10,400 Nepalese in remote and marginalized regions of the country. Today, Equal Access’ interactive educational and social change programming has expanded across nine countries in Africa, Asia and the Middle East, with more than 67 million active viewers and listeners, robust virtual engagement and more than 102,000 people participating in trainings, facilitated learning groups and community mobilization activities last year. The Tech Awards’ official Press Release commends the winners of all the categories and can be found here.
