Equal Access Programs in Cambodia

Background
Our Community Voice (Somleng Sahakum Yeurng), the Equal Access Khmer Language Satellite Radio Service broadcasts innovative social development radio four hours daily to millions of Cambodians -including rural communities with little or no radio coverage. Our distribution of nearly 300 satellite radio receivers to rural communities in five provinces and rebroadcast agreements with 9 local FM radio station partners in Cambodia throughout the country (covering 80% of the population) create the foundation for a national network that empowers the people of Cambodia with vitally needed information and education of direct relevance to their daily lives.

Trafficking, Safe Migration & HIV/AIDS Program
Every day, youth in rural Cambodia leave home in search of a better life in the city. However, expectations of a comfortable job in the factory disappear when unaware migrants find themselves victims trafficked into an abusive industry, such as the sex trade or other exploitative work. Combining a serial drama, success stories and practical life skills information, the program provides critical information for both youth and families about the realities of trafficking while discussing alternative livelihood options and integrating HIV/AIDS information for those at risk of trafficking. Broadcasts feature our flagship radio series on Safe Migration and Anti-Trafficking, The Future Is in Your Hands (Ana Kut Knong Dai Nek) as well as a range of programs produced by our local partners. Funding to launch this initiative was generously provided by the USAID Global Development Alliance, the Asia Foundation and East West Management Institute and World Education.

Access to Justice Program
Our Access to Justice project, supported by USAID and East West Management Institute, provides specific and practical education to Cambodians about their rights and legal resources in regards to land law & gender-based violence. 75 community-based leaders are trained on local law issues and helping their community members utilize the law and available legal services to improve their lives. With multiple local NGO partners for content production and outreach, our highly collaborative projects demonstrate our commitment to building capacity in Cambodian organizations. Equal Access is now developing new projects with diverse partners across a variety of development sectors to assist Cambodians in improving their lives.
