Our Programs

Equal Access designs and implements compelling communications and outreach projects that address the most critical problems affecting people in the developing world including education, women's empowerment, human rights, improved health practices and HIV/AIDS prevention. We employ a variety of methods-local audio and multimedia content production, satellite broadcasting, AM/FM broadcasts, and community outreach-to empower the communities we serve. Our target beneficiaries are the vast majority of marginalized, poor and remote communities that lack the basic information and education resources that can assist them in improving their lives. We partner with governments, international and community-based organizations to increase the impact and broaden the reach of their development efforts.

Culturally appropriate and locally owned solutions are critical requirements for the success of any development effort. We have developed a dynamic project methodology that emphasizes listening first, community collaboration and interactive feedback. Our focus is on designing replicable and scalable models that are cost-effective and sustainable. All of our audio and multimedia content is locally produced. To provide the best content dissemination strategies, we work with a range of technologies and community outreach techniques.

To learn more about our people-centered approach and use of technologies to reach even the most remote populations, please see the details on this website about our projects in Nepal, Afghanistan, India, Lao PDR and Cambodia.

Chat Shows Radio Dramas Magazine Shows
Group discussions, interviews and game shows on the radio foster candid dialogue, engaging listeners with a diversity of perspectives. The chat show format empowers audiences by sparking local conversation and provoking questions from listeners who write,e-mail and call the hosts. Vibrant characters within radio dramas capture audiences, providing role models for listeners to emulate and turn to for advice, as well as support and links to resources. Sympathetic characters emerge who face many of the same challenges that listeners confront in their daily lives. In depth insight into pertinent and often sensitive subjects, such as HIV transmission and women's empowerment, provide listeners with engaging content that challenges assumptions. Journalistic in nature, magazine shows cover local events and special interest stories.

Instructional Programs Leadership Training Media Training
Our instructional radio programs equip healthcare workers, teachers and others with insight and practical skills that help them to more effectively perform their jobs. Listeners benefit from access to information previously unavailable due to a lack of infrastructure or high costs of transmission. Face-to-face leadership workshops for teachers, listening group facilitators and outreach workers inspire new community leaders and grassroots groups. Skills learned through workshops are subsequently reinforced through radio programs. Media training offers technical skills in content production and broadcasting to youth and local media professionals. Whether strengthening the skills of existing community radio stations or building new capacity, media training contributes to the sustainability of development programming.
