In our village there used to be many incidents of violence against women.  But now we have united together against domestic violence, we have made a commitment to making our voice heard in the community, to convince people not to be violent toward women. We are going to stop the violence against us,” says listener club facilitator Suresh Ahuji, from Kanachanpur, Nepal.  To spread the word and turn their facilitator’s words in to action, the listener club organized a rally calling for an end to violence against women. The rally was attended by over 90 community members including women from across the community who shared their personal stories of violence.  As the rally progressed through the streets, it was clear that men, women and children from the community stood together demanding change: “We will no longer be silent when we experience violence, we will stop this!”

As a partner to Pact on the USAID funded Sajhedari Bikaas project in Nepal, Equal Access has supported local radio stations in producing 72 radio episodes and numerous public service announcements addressing gender based violence and women’s empowerment just this year.
