Growing Vegetables as a New Livelihood Opportunity

“In my community, we have decided to form a group of four household so that we can collect some money and begin a small (micro) co-operative type of financial group.”

This is my fourth letter to the program. This is a platform where we can write and express about ourselves. We have learnt a great many ideas about how we can solve the problems and lead a happy life. I would like to thank all the friends of SSMK for this particular endeavor. I remember that when I sent my first letter to this program, I was in grade nine. I am happy to write that recently I have passed SLC in first division. Isn’t it happy news to share with you?

These days I feel that I am taking things in a positive way. I am intensely encouraged to do activities. I can experience the positive changes in me. I am no longer frustrated. I have realized that everyone is in a constant struggle. The AIDS victims are struggling against the disease, the handicapped people are in their own fight against their disabilities, and the like. I have realized that I can do some of the works of my own and live a happy life. I am physically able, and therefore, I can work and earn my living. I have the mental ability to distinguish good or bad. I can begin a small scale business and live my life. At present, I am able to talk about all these things.

As you are well known that I am from a hilly region, there is a possibility of growing vegetable in a small scale. In my community, we have decided to form a group of four household so that we can collect some money and begin a small (micro) co-operative type of financial group. I spent some three months after my SLC to work for this small project. The project grew successful. Now, we are planning to extend it and involve many households of my community.
