One of our Voices for Peace partner radio stations, La Voix du Soum, which operates in a particularly unstable region of Burkina Faso, was experiencing trouble connecting with its listeners with messages to counter violent extremism, especially among youth.
After graduating from one of our V4P Tech Camps, two of their employees learned better techniques around #mobile #journalism and #social #networking. They now manage a wildly popular Facebook page, which has become one of the primary sources for information in the entire province.
Emmanuel Bamogo, the Facebook page manager, noted that “it was only after the training that things really started to move on our Facebook page. Today, about 7,000 people follow [it.] Activities in the area now insist on our coverage because they know we have a wide audience. All this because our social network allows the station to reach anyone in Soum, even beyond its usual coverage area by airwaves.”
